Sella Chianzutan – Passo Rest
INTO THE WILD
Inspired by the title of the wonderful film, this was the only possible name for this stunning route in our mountains, surrounded by the purest green nature.
The day features two ascents, Sella Chianzutan and Passo Rest! The magnificent setting of the last two Giri d’Italia, the roads where the champions took on their rivals. The two climbs enclose the beautiful Arzino valley (named after its river) and the Val Tramontina respectively.
The area is practically untouched, and cars are a rarity. The two stretches nestled among the mountains are divided by the wild forest of Clauzetto, where you’ll cycle – often uphill – lost in wonder, the only sound that of the rivers on the valley floor, rushing through their deep gorges carved in the rock!
The common denominator for the entire route: “PERFECT ASPHALT“.
And it’s true! For at least 80% of the route, you’ll be pedalling on a genuine billiard table which we guarantee will make your road bike feel different. But one step at a time! Follow our annotated track and our RoadBook, because you want to lose yourself, it’s true!
But only in the thrill of a route to dream of, and not in a place which, if you’re not perfectly prepared, might give you some unpleasant surprises, as you can imagine in a place where humans are scarce.
Although what we’re describing might sound like desolation, we assure you that there are very few routes in Italy like this, that bring you into such close contact with nature at its purest and, most of all, with yourself!
It’ll be an amazing journey within a journey, taking in fabulous cycleways, Carnia’s most ancient fogolari, enchanted woods, emerald green lakes such as Verzegnis and Caprizzi, and rivers every shade of blue, like the Arzino and the Meduna!
