Sella Valcalda – Zoncolan da Sutrio

CARESSING CARNIA

Val Degano is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Silent Alps BikExperience itineraries, with distinctive architecture. On this route we’ll take a close look, with the sensation of caressing Carnia with our wheels, seeing it from every side and passing at the foot of the king of all climbs in terms of toughness.

No offence to Egypt, but we could call it the Valley of Kings.

The Stentaria, the Zoncolan from Ovaro and Monte Crostis from Comeglians. Three genuine “monsters” that can make us gain 4000 metres of elevation in a 35-km climb in a single day! But on this route we prefer to just feel small as we pass their feet on our way to another titan.

Indeed, having passed from one valley to the next by climbing the Valcalda and descending into the But valley, we’re faced with what is erroneously called the easiest face of Mount Zoncolan: the Sutrio side!

We’ll just say that if you think 9.5 km with an average gradient of 10% followed by another 4 km with peaks of 21% is easy… have fun and enjoy Carnia!
